Dad Starts School

Dad started school this week. I guess I better get used to seeing him in uniform. He is anxious to learn everything that he possibly can about cars and is enjoying using all of the tools at the workshop.

Since I have had a lot of extra time being by myself this week, I have been doing some thinking, comparing things that I have seen in California to Alabama.
  1. 4 way stops and bicycle lanes are everywhere. Let's not forget the bicyclists using the bike lanes. I become very alert watching the bicyclists when I am in the car or running in the park along side of Mom and Dad. (Yes, Dad started running! I convinced them to join a gym and leave me out of this exercise thing. I do not have to watch my girlish figure - it comes naturally.)
  2. On the dash of cars, Californians have carpet. Yes, it looks like outdoor carpet. Weird, isn't it?
  3. Everyone asks us, "Where are you from?" the minute we speak, especially Mom. They all seem to think that we have an accent. I never heard that in Alabama.
  4. There are dogs galore - hanging out of the side windows of trucks, tied to a leash in the back of trucks, walking along the sidewalk. Everyone here has at least one dog. I guess that is a good thing if you like dogs.
Mom constantly complains about getting behind tractors on the road. We never had this problem in Trussville, Alabama
But everything has its pros and cons because we did not see this either while driving to and from work.

Or this. I sure do like these palm trees better than those ole' cacti.

We were planning to do some sightseeing this weekend until Dad found out that he had to go to school on Saturday. Mom, knowing that she will have some extra time to lounge by the pool, decided to visit the local library. She was surprised by the spelling of the library's sign on the front of the building. Did they use all of the letter "U"s on other signs? You would think that people who work at the library would know how to spell. Another weird thing in California!

While Mom is lounging at the pool, I think that I will find a good spot to curl up in this weekend. I hope that your weekend is as relaxing as mine!

Also, I wanted to say how thankful I am to have received the FIRST piece of mail in the mailbox by one of my fans, my great Mawmaw's friend, Mrs. Aaron. Thank you for the kind letter and I am glad that you are enjoying my writings! Keep reading and feel free to comment!
