This day everyone went to the Wild Animal Park, which is an expansion of the San Diego Zoo. This 1,800-acre is a wildlife sanctuary and home to more than 3,500 animals, representing 429 species. Needless to say, it is a big place. But, have no fear! W.H. lead the way with map in hand.
And, everyone else just tagged along for the ride.Their first stop was an African Safari where they rode a bus through the heart of Africa, viewing animals lounging in natural settings. Now I could not possibly post a picture of every animal they saw, but, Mom and Dad told me everything about all of them. These are just the highlights of the day.
A rhinoceros just taking it easyNext they went to the Lion Camp and saw the lioness from a distance enjoying the sun.
Then they came face-to-face with Africa’s biggest cat, all thanks to a little girl who called the lion over. There was only a piece of glass between them!
It was hard to see the cheetahs because they were smart, staying in the shade.
This was Mom's favorite animal of the day - the Southern Gerenuk. This species requires very little fluids and may never drink water its entire life! They are able to stand on their hind legs to eat the leaves that are higher in the bushes and trees, giving them an advantage to the competition.
